Things I've been doing to keep my self busy
My aunt made this exact dress about 15 years ago, I found the pattern and bought it. Here is a sort of step by step of the bed doll dress that I made.

I used the dress that my aunt made as my inspiration. and kept it close by while working on the dress I was making.

What a wonderful cruise this turned out to be.
We had an awesome time. I took a blanket that I was working on to finish up on the cruise. I was working on it in the atrium when a woman sat down next to me and started asking me a bunch of questions. Then out of the blue she asked me if she could buy it. I told her that it wasn't finished yet and that I couldn't guarantee that I would have it finished. I did finish it though, and later I ran into the woman on the ship again and she asked if it was done. I said yes and she immediately asked if she could buy it again. So I sold it to her for $40.00

That same night, we decided that we were going to go play speed bingo in one of the lounges. Speed bingo is one game, cover all. The prizes were for a single winner a iPad, and for multiple winners, to split $500.00 I was a single winner, and I brought home a 16 gig iPad. I have no idea what I can do with it yet, as I am still learning. I did load my reading apps on it though that is really all that matters right now. I will work the rest out later. I will upload the camera sometime tomorrow. I will post a few pictures then.

To read or not to read
This book is one I would really enjoy reading. It is only .99 cents at Amazon. When reading the blurb, I caught two editing errors and I haven't even started reading the book yet. Maybe I am being a little nit picky, but I find this happening quite frequently in the books that I have bought lately. It takes away from my positive reading experience. I am a little skeptical about this book, The plot interest me, but do I want to put myself through the agony of reading it if I already know that it was not edited properly.

Am I being to picky?

The List for Jan/Feb
Hi everyone. I hope you all had a great holiday. I've been busy with mom, running her to Dr's appointments and stuff like that. She has been doing good. I've been doing a lot of reading. I completed my reading challenge for 2012 with 171 books, my goal was 150. This year I've decreased my goal to 125, mostly because, we don't know how mom is going to be doing on the cancer drugs they have put her on. Hopefully she will tolerate them well, so far so good.

I have set my goal
So last year I set a reading goal of 150 books to read over at Goodreads. I ended up reading 171. It was harder than I thought it would be to complete. The books that I read after completing the goal were actually short reads. There was a lot of fan fiction in between books. I needed my fix of QAF fiction.

My goal for this year is 125 for the year. Now that mom is living with us. I don't know if I will have the time to read that I normally do. We will have to see how things go. I can always up the goal if I want to.

The List for November and December
Its been a long couple of months, but things are finally starting to get back to normal. I do miss my grandchildren now that they are living as we here in Vegas say over the hump in Pahrump. It is about 60 miles away from Vegas, give or take a few miles. Mom is settled in, and hopefully sometime after the holidays we will be able to get her stuff out of storage back in PA and out here so she can have some of her things.

In the meantime I have been reading a lot of fanfiction. Mostly stuff that I already added to my Nook. It is going to take me a little while to get caught back up to some of the stories that I've been following online. Reading original fiction slowed down for a while there. When stressed I always fall back on my happy place, which will always be QAF, but there is a light at the end of every tunnel and I've been reading again. I have 28 books now to finish to complete my reading challenge over on GoodreadsI am 6 books behind now.

I am reading Letting Go by M.J. O'Shea right now. It is the next book in her Rock Bay series. The first book Coming Home was very good and I highly recommend it. I'm on chapter 3 of Letting Go and So far it is turning out to be just as good as the first book in the series.

Yesterday I finished up From This Day by J.R. Patrick This was a sweet little story. And a nice change of pace for me, I had just finished a few books that were very angsty and was in need of a "Feel Good" story.

I also finished Bond Mates by Simone Anderson. This was a alternate world short story. Also a nice change of pace for me.

A Reason To Believe by Diana Copland was really a great book. After I read this one I had to read Grand Jeté [info]diana_copland is a author I'm going to be following closely in the future.

Now For the List.

There are no words
I can not tell you how much the images that I've seen of my home back in NJ so devastated by Hurricane Sandy have upset me. I grew up on the shore, I raised my children there, and it is gone. Seaside Heights Amusement Pier is gone, just gone, the roller coaster sits in the ocean.

Hurricane Sandy
I must say that this storm has me very concerned and worried for my family and many friends that I have in NJ. They are saying that landfall is going to be somewhere around Barnaget, NJ, about 15 to 20 miles south of where I grew up and raised my kids. My father-in-law still lives in Neptune City, not far from the Shark River inlet. The surge from the storm will cause flooding not far from his house, and depending on the tide could reach him.

My sister lives about 5 miles further north of my father-in-law, but further inland. My son is up in North Jersey about 20 minutes away from the city. I'm sure that they will all lose power, and I'm worried about not being able to reach them for a few days, Rays dad is 82 years old. Rays sister lives in the house with him so hopefully they will be okay. I am still worried though.

For all of my LJ friends living in the NY/NJ and Pennsylvania area, please stay safe.

This is a truly dangerous storm.

This picture was taken in Ocean Grove, NJ. About 4 miles away from where I am from. I spent a lot of time in this little beach town.
